So today one of the biology profs with his own boat took us for a little jaunt around the inlets near Bamfield. It was too choppy to go far out to sea but we went into the bay just a little way. And then both engines failed and we're drifting quickly toward the rocks but in a really deep patch of water that the anchor won't reach. Thankfully the coastguard station was about 1/4 mile away so we Maydayed for help and were towed out of danger.
This is the RIB tied beside us. It was too close to get a decent shot. My daughter was a bit scared, my son said he figured we'd call for help and dad would come and get us. Aw. Pretty sweet.
So, add that to my list of new experiences.
